Hints
and Tips
INSTALLING
PARTS
When installing plastic parts over upholstery or
carpet, place one or more washers on the underside
to keep the part from distorting when tightening
the screws. Masking tape over the washers helps
keep them in place during installation.
REMOVING OLD DECALS
Try using a hair dryer on the back side of the part.
Heat will usually soften the adhesive making the
decal easier to remove.
SAVE YOUR SUN VISORS
Time has made the plastic brittle in your visors
just as it has in the other plastic parts on your
aircraft. Time has also allowed rust to form on
the visor pivots causing excessive friction. The
next time you go to pull down the visor, it may
crack before it moves. To extend the life of those
expensive visors, remove the screws holding the
visor to the steel shaft and slide the visor off
the shaft. Clean the rust that has formed on the
shaft and on the two metal plates. Coat both with
a thin film of grease and reassemble.
CLEANING PLASTIC
Use any household water based cleaner to clean the
plastic parts. A household tub and tile cleaner
is also suitable. It will remove some of the surface
yellowing. NEVER use a solvent based cleaner as
it could damage the plastic
PAINTING PLASTIC TRIM
It is important to clean all plastic before painting.
Besides the normal accumulation of dust, dirt and
smoke, additives used in the manufacture of the
plastic can migrate to the surface causing adhesion
problems. Clean your parts as described above. A
Vinyl or Acrylic paint works well on interior parts.
A Vinyl paint can usually be purchased at an automotive
paint supply store. |
